Some Aspects of Campus Lore

Description

M.A. dissertation which surveys contemporary American folklore, focussing on folkloric material found on American university and college campuses. Examples gathered from fieldwork interviews relate to Rush Week (start of the autumn term), and include a discussion of dress code, class registration, coed sorority types, campus suicide legends, student-teacher romance legends. The second chapter describes the traditions and legends associated with Pledge Week and pledging to become a member of a fraternity/sorority, followed by chapters on initiation ceremonies and post-induction activities.
