The nine chapters in this Ph.D. thesis describe an approach to collecting folklife material in the cities, towns and villages of West Yorkshire (including Bradford, Halifax and Huddersfield), with chapters on the setting (the landscape, people, home and neighbourhood, attitudes), beliefs and superstitions, calendar and other customs, death and funeral customs, folk medicine, tales and anecdotes, proverbs and sayings.
