M.A. dissertation on the preservation and transmission of Greek traditional culture in Leeds. The dissertation is in three sections: The Field, Fieldwork, The Immigrants: What Happens to their Heritage. The first section describes Greek emigration in Britain, the Greeks in Britain and the Leeds Greek community. Section Two discusses fieldwork and the methodology employed, whilst the final section has chapters on ethnicity and culture, ethnicity and language, oral traditions, material culture (food and drink, clothing, housing and living spaces), behavioural culture (calendar customs - many church-based ( Greek Orthodox) - and family life). The photographs show the Greek Orthodox Church in Leeds, Greek dancers and musicians, Christmas celebrations, informants and the interiors of their homes. The texts of [traditional] stories and a lullaby (Greek, with English translations) are also included.
