Pidgin Variety in Cameroon

Description

M.A. project investigating the sound systems of Cameroon Pidgin English (CPE), based on four texts selected from tape recordings made by Stanley Ellis in West Cameroon in 1971. The study presents information on the history of this part of the country, an outline of the methodology employed, and chapters on the sounds of CPE, sound differences between CPE and British Standard English (vowels and consonants, including word maps), and Pidgin variety in Cameroon. An Appendix contains the texts in CPE, with phonetic transcriptions and Standard English translations. A Word List is included. The photographs show views of the country and a group of informants.
