Description

Ph.D. thesis based on field data recorded in 1958 by John Wright, for the Survey of English Dialects (SED); tape recordings made in the same seven SED localities by the collector and Stanley Ellis in the spring of 1963; and tape recordings in three further localities, made by the collector and Philip Tilling in July 1963. The thesis comprises six chapters: Introduction; Geographical, Social and Historical Background; Cornish and English; Phonology; Lexis; Conclusion. An appendix contains an imitation of Cornish dialectal speech from 1547.
