Description

M.A. dissertation on sheep farming practises in the Dark Peak area of the Peak District, Derbyshire. The study draws on both printed documentary sources and information gathered during three field trips to Edale, Barber Booth and Woodlands Valley in 1978 and 1979. Its chapters cover sheep farming and Folk Life Studies, research methodology, a description of the Dark Peak, documentary sources, organisation and administration in the Dark Peak (including reference to the Shepherds' Society and sheep marks), and the sheepfarmer's year.
