A Comparative Phonology Between Tunstall and Longton

M.A. dissertation offering a study of the phonological structure of two dialects and the compilation of a comparative phonology. This work was based on interviews with four informants in Tunstall and Longton, Staffordshire, with analysis of their responses to questions from Books VII-IX of the Dieth-Orton Questionnaire. The study gives a short history of the Potteries, notes on the selection of informants and the Questionnaire, followed by chapters on the sounds of the dialects of Tunstall and Longton recorded in 19[69], the vowel system and a description and comparison of vowel sounds, consonantal sounds, irregular verbs, auxiliary verbs and other miscellaneous criteria.
