A Study of the Implicit Metaphors in Selected Fairy Tales and Their Use in Modern Literature and the Media

Description

Ph.D. thesis considering the sociological and psychological significance of the implicit metaphors of ten popular fairy tales and their recurrence in contemporary life and literature. Each fairy tale is analysed in order to reveal the metaphors inherent in it. The referential and structural use of these metaphors in the writings of selected modern and contemporary authors is then investigated, as is their use in the media with particular reference to the press and advertising. Volume Two contains information on the collector's pilot survey, and presents statistical data from the Main Survey in the form of tables and graphs. This volume also includes transcripts of taped interviews and the findings of a newspaper survey carried out by the collector.
