The Dialect of Pennington

Description

M.A. (Dialectology) study which establishes, through interviews with two male informants, the sound system of the village of Pennington (Hampshire), and compares this with other linguistic material collected in Hampshire and Dorset by A. J. Ellis, and published in Volume Five of his 'Early English Pronunciation' (1889), and material collected in Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire and Berkshire as part of the Survey of English Dialects. In each case the vowels in stressed and unstressed syllables, and the consonant system, are analysed.
