Description

Ph.D. thesis containing chapters describing the sounds of the dialect recorded in 19[56], the development of Middle English sounds in the living dialect vowels of stressed syllables, the historical sources of the stressed vowels in the living dialect, vowels of unstressed syllables, the consonants treated historically, accidence and syntax. An appendix contains phonetic transcriptions of tape recordings of Dent( North Yorkshire) dialect speakers.
