Kuwaiti Folktales

Description

Postgraduate study comprising four chapters. The Introduction has sections on the geography and climate of Kuwait, the origin of its people, a brief history of modern Kuwait, religion, family and social life, class divisions and occupations. Chapter Two analyses Kuwaiti dialect, phonetically and morphologically, and identifies unique lexical items and their sources. Chapter Three concerns folklore and folktales, with sections on customs and beliefs associated with animals, plants, family life and the sea, and supernatural, religious and family-related folktales. The concluding chapter assesses the effect of history, climate, geography, religion and language on Kuwaiti folklore and folktales, and the currency of both in modern Kuwait.
