Marriage Customs in Central Sudan

Description

Dissertation submitted for the postgraduate Diploma in Folk Life Studies. The marriage customs of central Sudan are here classified under two headings, Betrothal and Preparation for Marriage and Marriage. Within these are considered the discussions which take place between the bride and bridegroom's families, the mahar or bride price, the concept of beauty, lip tattooing, dressing the bride's hair, the bridal dance, marriage meals, the marriage ceremony and associated customs.
