Volume One of this Ph.D. thesis includes an Introduction, notes on the informants and on methods and principles of phonetic transcription, phonetic transcriptions made from field tape recordings, a section on the vowel system of the Upper Holme Valley, descriptions of vowels, diphthongs, triphthongs, consonants, semi-vowels, and prosodic features of the dialect. Volume Two contains two appendices, phonetics of the definite article, and grammatical features of the Upper Holme Valley dialect, a Word List, a list of local place names and by-names and a subject index.
