Theakston's of Masham: A Study of the Traditional Craft of Brewing

Description

M.A. dissertation which contains a brief description of Masham, with an account of the history of the brewery and the Theakston family, and chapters on the process of making beer, the brewery premises and its contents. Appendices give a table of materials used in the brewing of Theakston's beers, a list of licensed houses owned by Theakston's from 1904, a list and map of the small family breweries in Great Britain, sections on beer gravity and strength, ale and beer, and details of a cooper's apprenticeship and his initiation ceremony. Volume Two contains black and white photographs of the brewery premises, the brewing process and associated equipment and tools.
