SED Phonological Map: ME and OE E

Description

Experimental phonological map of the Northern Counties, completed in ms., mapping examples of Middle English and Old English vowel forms found in responses to SED questions V.6.4 Knead, VI.5.5 Speak, VI.5.11 Eat, V.6.1 Meal, and VIII.7.5 Steal, and their northern and southern limits. A note at the base of the map states that single deviants are ignored in the isogloss mapping. The map is labelled as a draft. Another version of this map, held at S273, indicates that it was compiled by Harold Orton.
