Horn Branding (Sheep)

Description

Mr. M. Horner of Buckden branding sheep horns in a field at Cray ( Langstrothdale). Mr. Horner stands inside the area into which the sheep have been penned, holds the head of a sheep against a wooden fence, and burns the registered brand of the sheep owner into the horn. A metal bucket, filled with small pieces of wood, set alight, and used to heat the branding implement, can be seen in the foreground. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference B55.
