Description

Close-up detail of a late Renaissance tapestry from Østerdalen ( Østdal?) (Norway) showing the method of depicting life-like figures, and of joining the colours in the pattern. The slide shows a male and a female figure, woven in black, red, and white, against a patterned background of the same colours. The tapestry dates to around 1700, and is housed at the Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference B5.
