Ropework Items for Canal Boats

Description

Ropework items used on canal boats, exhibited at the Stoke Bruerne Canal Museum (formerly the Waterways Museum) on the Grand Union Canal at Stoke Bruerne (Northamptonshire). To the right are monkey's paws, used to protect the sides of canal boats; in the centre a swan's neck; and to the left (hanging from the rudder), a horse's tail. The names of all these items are derived from their shape. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference B106.
