Tapestry (Norway)

Description

Fragment of tapestry, or Baldisholteppet, from Oseberg (Norway). The tapestry is brightly coloured and decorated with figures on horseback, and a bearded figure with birds ( St. Francis of Assisi?). The borders and backgrounds are heavily patterned. A note in the Slide Index states that the tapestry dates to around 800. The tapestry is housed at the Norsk Folkemuseum in Oslo. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference B8.
