Up-Helly-Aa: Ship Burning
Description
Burning of a replica Viking ship at the Up-Helly-Aa festival in Lerwick (Shetland Islands). Traditionally, Yule fires were burnt for the festival. The custom of burning a Norse galley was introduced in 1889 and has since been the main event. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference B134.
