Wall Painting (Sweden)

Description

Slide of Winter Carl Hansson's wall painting, 'The Marriage in Cana'/ 'Bröllopet i Kana', Leksand (Dalarnas Lan, Sweden). The painting depicts Jesus (centre, with halo) seated at a table with the wedding guests. The painting is now houses at the Nordiska Museet in Stockholm. The painting is an example of the Dalamälning style of folk art, which evolved in Dalarnas Lan from a simple desire to decorate rather austere and poorly-lit homes. The compositions painted by the Dalamälning artists were typically of a religious motif, focusing on Old Testament biblical passages, and New Testament stories of Jesus and his miracles. This slide is number 5 of a series of slides of wall paintings from the Nordiska Museet. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference A33.
