Ropemaking at Peak Cavern
Description
Ropemaker Herbert Marrison working on the rope-walk, at Peak Cavern, Castleton (Derbyshire). The rope-walk has an almost indefinite length as he is able to retreat into the recesses of the cave and into subterranean passages if need be. The dampness of the cave allows the rope fibres to hold and bind more strongly. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference B86.
