Swedish Wedding Costume

Description

Traditional wedding costume from Leksand (Sweden), from the exhibition of peasant costumes at the Nordiska Museet in Stockholm . The costume consists of a red bodice with white blouse, and a blue skirt belted at the waist. The bodice is embroidered with heart motifs; the belt is brown leather decorated with silverwork. The costume is completed by a large, heavily-beaded neck ornament(?) of red and blue beads, hung with silver crosses. Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference A40.
