Ropemaking: The Small Top

Description

Ropemaker Herbert Marrison holding a tap, or small top used in making smaller ropes (such as for washing lines) at Peak Cavern, Castleton, Derbyshire. The device is used in connection with a sledge, a wheel-less version of the cart pictured in LAVC/PHO/S582. The ends of the rope can also be seen, showing the Morrison loop (see also LAVC/PHO/S590). Originally held in green slide cabinet, reference B90.
