Bracken Cutting
Description
Copy of a photograph dating from the early-20th century of two men cutting bracken with scythes on a steep hillside at an unidentified location. Bracken was used for a variety of purposes. Left green or dried it was used as cattle fodder; dried it was used as bedding/litter for horses and cattle; and burned its high potash content made it suitable for use as fertilizer and in making soap. Bracken was usually cut between June and October.
