L. Matthys trade card

Description

Highly pictorial 19th century chromolithographed trade card of L. Matthys, with trader details encased in elaborate oval cartouche depicting various travel items such as saddles, purses, trunks and boxes. Trader details in a variety of typefaces with decorative flourishes. Enamelled card or carte porcelaine with two tone coloured inks in reds and golds. Remains of previous blue paper mount and glue present on reverse. French transcription: L. MATTHYS, SELLIER. Magasin de Sellier & Articles de voyage. Rue de la Calandre en face de la Rue de l'Universite, No 3. GAND. Lith G. Jacqmain, à Gand. English translation: L. MATTHYS, SADDLER. Saddle and travel goods shop.
