Description
Pictorial 19th century engraved trade card (advertisement) of Barron & Mills depicting three examples of blind designs and a large window with curtain rods on obverse. Images of shutter blinds open and closed on reverse, with description of their operation. Trader details in a variety of typefaces with decorative flourishes. Manuscript pencil note on reverse in John Bedford's hand 'enter under trade cards & pto'. Print marks visible, with border around print area. Transcription of obverse: BARRON & MILLS Patent Blind AND BRASS MANUFACTURERS. No. 72 & 73 Wells Street Oxford Street, LONDON. and 25 Lower Temple Street BIRMINGHAM. Parlour or Dwarf Blinds with Metal Slides & Brafs [Brass] Ferrules. Brafs [Brass] Pulleys and Rollers used to all Shade Blinds. Circular headed Bonnet Blind. Improv'd Bonnet Blind. PATENT Fan Blind. Particular attention is paid to Workmanship & to the Wood being well season'd. BRASS POLE CORNICES, With rings to run on Invisible Rollers, and in the common way, both Reeded and Plain. EVERY DESCRIPTION OF BRASS FOUNDRY MADE TO ORDER OR DESIGN. A GREAT VARIETY is kept at their WAREHOUSE in LONDON. VENETIAN & OTHER BLINDS, MADE, REPAIRED, & PAINTED. Transcription of reverse: BARRON & MILLS Having made CONSIDERABLE IMPROVEMENTS in the Manufacture of OUTSIDE SHUTTER BLINDS they respectfully submit to their friends the following description. On opening them right & left and pushing them against the Wall as FIG 1 a Balance, of self acting fastening instantly secures them. In order to shut them, as FIG 2 nothing more is required than to touch the BALANCE FASTENING when they immediately close, and then it fastens them. They will admit more LIGHT and AIR than those in common use and, when necefsary [necessary] will exclude the WEATHER ENTIRELY at once, forming a secure protection to the Window, as an ordinary Shutter. Which renders them almost indispensable in all situations greatly exposed to Sun and Wind.
