Description

Highly pictorial 19th century chromolithographed trade card of A. Durin depicting two figures on plinths in Western interpretation of Chinese dress, beneath a decorative gold canopy. Delicate image of painter's palette surrounded by ivy in centre of card. Trader details in a variety of typefaces with decorative flourishes. Enamelled card or carte porcelaine with two tone coloured inks in blues and purples. Remains of previous blue paper mount and glue present on reverse. French transcription: A. DURIN Professeur de Peinture Chinoise, et autres arts d'agremens. Donne des Cours dans les Couvents, Pensionnals, & a la domicile, pour tous les genres de peintures, dorure sur etoffe [etosse], & du defsin [dessin] indelebile. Rue Du Jardin des Plants, en face de L'Athénée GAND. Lith Royale Daveluy Bruges. English translation: A. DURIN Teacher of Chinese painting, and other decorative art forms. Gives courses in Convents, Boarding houses, & at home, for all types of painting, gilding on fabric, & indelible design. Rue Du Jardin des Plants, opposite the Athénée GHENT.
