Charles Cottem trade card

Description

Highly pictorial 19th century chromolithographed trade card of Charles Cottem, with National Award, Brussels Exhibition 1841 medal depicted in decorative cartouche in centre of card, flanked by chair at either side. Trader details in a variety of typefaces with decorative flourishes and leafwork detail. Enamelled card or carte porcelaine with two tone coloured inks in pinks and purples, with gold and blue text. Manuscript pencil note '600' and remains of previous brown and blue paper mount and glue present on reverse. French and Dutch transcription: Récompense Nationale, Exposition de Bruxelles. Médaille décernée par la Ville de Bruges. 1841 CH[ARLE]S COTTEM DE VOS FABRICANT DE CHAISES Près de l'Academie, SON F.I.NO 41 Bruges. Fait tout ce qui concerne son etai et tient magasin de joues.
