This file contains a typed series of articles, originally written for the 'Hexham Courant' (ca. 1929-1939), on the dialect of Allendale Town, Northumberland. The author, Hubert Dixon, was a native of Allendale Town at the time of writing. The file includes sections on general dialectal variations; abbreviations and contractions; interjections; forms of measurement; the words few, bit, gay and sair; the dialect poem 'Bob O' the Gate'; agriculture and livestock; health; the weather; punishment; and personal qualities. It also includes a series of dialect prose called 'Ah Crack Wu Joe'. The typed articles are accompanied by a letter from the author (5 November 1969) which expresses his interest in the Survey of English Dialects.
