Description
This file contains papers relating chiefly to Newfoundland English. It includes a printed [proof] copy of an article by John Widdowson, 'Some Items of a Central Newfoundland Dialect' published in an unidentified Canadian journal in 1964; a typed phonetic word list of 190 Central Newfoundland words with the same title as the article; and a typed 'Checklist of Newfoundland Expressions' (100 expressions, iii leaves). The file also contains a photocopied ms. list of phonetic recordings of by-names (nicknames) collected from fishermen in Filey (North Yorkshire).
