Ford Foundation Proposals
Description
This file contains photocopies of two typed papers originally printed in 'A Proposal to the Ford Foundation for Continued Support of the Center for Applied Linguistics' , vol. 1, Washington, D.C., 9 May 1965. The first paper is entitled, 'The Education and Research Program', and outlines proposals for program activities in language research; the theory and methodology in language teaching; the contribution of linguistics to the teaching of English as a native language; and adult thinking about language and the shaping of that thinking in the American school curriculum. The second paper is entitled, 'Urban Language Study: District of Columbia Proposal', and outlines proposals to investigate the language behaviour of school-age children in the District of Columbia with the aim of producing scientific information on which an approach to the teaching of standard English to those children could be based.
