The Evidence of Place-Names
Description
This file contains a paper on English placenames presented at the Medieval Settlement Seminar at the School of History, University of Leeds, 14 February 1973. The paper addresses what historical information can be deduced where placenames exist in two or more languages; and whether or not where place-names are mainly in one language, they can be sorted into earlier and later forms, and whether earlier forms necessarily relate to an earlier settlement.
