This file contains items collected and created by Abraham Newell during the course of research into the dialect of Todmorden (West Yorkshire). It includes loose ms. sheets with Todmorden dialect words, arranged alphabetically A-S; a duplicated typed paper, 'Glossary of the Todmorden Dialect', with an alphabetical list of Todmoden dialect words and definitions, B-S (13-258 leaves); two notebooks with press cuttings on Todmorden words and phrases, apparently compiled by Dr. James Travis Whittaker of Glasgow (whose stamp appears on the inside front cover of the first notebook) ca. 1880; and an ms. notebook of Todmorden dialect words, arranged alphabetically S-Y, followed by B omissions.
