George Baxter Tarantella Set of needlebox prints
Description
19th century set of George Baxter needlebox prints, entitled the 'Tarantella Set'. Ten oblong colour scenes are depicted on one sheet, to be cut and affixed to needleboxes. The scenes are entitled 'Evening in Italy, or the Tarantella', 'The Love Letter', 'View in Madeira', 'The Surprise', 'The Storm', 'The Admonition', 'Waterfall in the Alps', 'The Circassian', 'Chinese Temples' and 'Temples on the Ganges'. Signed 'Baxter, Patentee, 11, Northampton Square'. George Baxter was a pioneer of colour printing.
