Farm Lad and Bull

Description

Copy of a photograph dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century, of a young farm lad with a short-horn bull, outside a farmhouse in Thixendale (North Yorkshire). The bull has a ring through its nose, by which it is attached to a wooden pole held by the boy. The boy wears dress typical of East Riding farm labourers, with corduroy bell-bottoms (often tied at the knee) and a double-breasted waistcoat or small jacket. (Although Thixendale is now situated in North Yorkshire, it lies close to the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding.) Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1680. With ms. note.
