Horseman and Wagon
Description
Copy of a photograph dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century, of a horseman and wagon (driven by three horses) at Thixendale bottom (North Yorkshire). The horseman is riding postilion, which is unique to the East Riding as the wagons generally had a centre pole rather than shafts. A second man can be seen behind the horseman standing on the wagon shears, a position usually reserved for the farm foreman. (Although Thixendale is now situated in North Yorkshire, it lies close to the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding.) Mounted on Photo File card. With ms. note.
