Farm Lad with Team
Description
Copy of a photograph dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century, of a young farm lad with a team of two horses at a farm in Thixendale (North Yorkshire). The horses are probably harnessed for working in a shafted implement, as the horse which the boy holds has a cart saddle and britchings, but the other only has chains for attaching it in front of the first horse. The horse collars are in fairly poor condition, suggesting that they are old and borrowed. The boy wears dress typical of East Riding farm labourers, with corduroy bell-bottoms (often tied at the knee) and a double-breasted waistcoat or small jacket. (Although Thixendale is now situated in North Yorkshire, it lies close to the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding.) Mounted on Photo File card. With ms. note.
