Beast Man and Bull

Description

Copy of a photograph dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century, of a beast man with a short-horn bull, in the fold yard of a farm in Thixendale (North Yorkshire). The bull has a ring through its nose, by which it is attached to a rope held by the beast man. A second farm worker can be seen to the right of the picture. Both men wear dress typical of East Riding farm labourers, with corduroy bell-bottoms (often tied at the knee) and a double-breasted waistcoat or small jacket. (Although Thixendale is now situated in North Yorkshire, it lies close to the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding.) Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1679. With ms. note.
