Plough Boy and Team

Description

Copy of a photograph dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century, of a plough boy with his two-horse team in the fold yard of a farm at Thixendale (North Yorkshire). The horses wear high-peaked Scotch collars and are harnessed for ploughing. The boy holds the horses' reins (or strings). A second farm worker can be seen in the background. The boy wears dress typical of East Riding farm labourers, with corduroy bell-bottoms (often tied at the knee) and a double-breasted waistcoat or small jacket. (Although Thixendale is now situated in North Yorkshire, it lies close to the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding.) Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1681. With ms. note.
