Waggoner and Horse
Description
Copy of a photograph dating from the turn of the 19th/20th century, of a waggoner (head horseman or farm foreman) with a horse, on a farm at Thixendale (North Yorkshire). The horse is either a young stallion before breaking, or a stallion intended for rearing as an entire horse. The man's dress is typical of East Riding farm labourers, with corduroy bell-bottoms (often tied at the knee) and a double-breasted waistcoat or small jacket. (Although Thixendale is now situated in North Yorkshire, it lies close to the Yorkshire Wolds in the East Riding.) Mounted on Photo File card with LAVC/PHO/P1683. With ms. note.
