Divining Chains

Description

Card-mounted copy of a photograph of Ejagham divining chains. There are two pairs of chains, each consisting of four mango seed pod halves tied at regular intervals with a piece of string. Symbolic objects are strung onto the chains, including shells. The bag in which the chains are stored is on the left of the photograph. At the top is a boar's tooth, which is used by the diviner to tap on each half pod when a question is asked.
