Description
This file contains a photocopy of Gerald Keil's typed paper (17, [6] pp.) on the IMPAC project to index, map and analyse data collected for the Survey of English Dialects (SED), using a computer. The paper describes how narrow phonetic transcription is treated in the project, and problems encountered and their solution; and includes tables of internal code matrices and samples of phonetic representation. The file also contains three copies of this paper, offprinted from 'Computers and the Humanities', volume 8 (1974), pp. 217-229.
