Illustrations used with Survey of English Dialects Questionnaire
Description
This file contains the notebook of illustrations used by Stanley Ellis as a visual aid to elicit responses to the Survey of English Dialects (SED) questionnaire. The images include tools, implements and utensils, animals, agricultural machinery and vehicles, plants, and flowers. Most images are labelled with the number of the SED question to which they pertain. The images are a mixture of hand-drawn pictures and diagrams, printed illustrations extracted from various sources (i.e. magazines, newspapers, etc.), and four black and white photographs (8.5 x 6 cm). The notebook is arranged in SED question number order, with unlabelled diagrams at the front.
