Oil sketch for 'Cupid Riding on a Lion'
Description
Oil sketch for 'Cupid Riding on a Lion', the final version of which was exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition in 1834. It was inspired by the epic poem 'The Faerie Queene' by Edmund Spenser, first published in 1590. On the reverse is painted a seascape with boats and houses visible along the coast.
