Description
Undated oil sketch by Edward Petre Novello in an unglazed gilt frame. It depicts four figures in a rural landscape. The figure on the far left is standing and drinking from a glass vessel, next to a figure in a red jacket with a brown hat with their hands on their hips. There is an older seated figure on the right, who is holding a staff in their proper right hand and in the background, a younder figure sat on a fence with a red hat about to draw their sword. It is possible that the scene was derived from an existing literary narrative.
