Coronation of the Virgin (fol. 17v)
Description
The full page miniature depicts the Coronation of the Virgin in heaven, and a patron couple in prayer. In the main, arched, miniature God the Father and Christ are enthroned in heaven, holding globes and placing a crown on the Virgin Mary's head, who kneels in prayer. The Holy Spirit as a dove appears above them within a halo of gold, red, pink and blue. Three angels are seated at the top of the miniature, and a sea of faces can be seen behind them. At the bottom of the miniature a young man and woman kneel in prayer, facing each other, at two small altars. Their coats of arms lean against their altars. Between the couple is another coat of arms, held by a male figure, who blends into the architectural design of the background. The shields of the arms are not the originally painted ones.
