Pentecost (fol. 37v)
Description
The arched miniature depicts the scene of Pentecost. The dove of the Holy Ghost descends upon the Virgin and the Apostles within a church. The Virgin kneels by a small table on which a book lies open. St John is seated behing her in red. Golden rays descend from the dove, and red flames burn over the heads of all figures. The miniature is surrounded by a border divided into diamonds with contrasting background colours of gold, blue and red, decorated with strawberry flowers, heartsease and stylised flowers.
