Description
Elaborate 19th century engraved trade card (label) of J. Shepherd [John Shepherd], with image at top of card depicting two mourners by gravestone inscribed with motto 'RESURGAM', Latin for 'I shall rise again'. Trader details in a variety of typefaces with decorative flourishes. Four images of different designs of luggage in each corner of text. Item is pasted on spotted paper. Transcription: J. SHEPHERD, Naval & Military, TRUNK, SEA CHEST, CANTEEN MAKER and Furnishing Undertaker. No. 90, Bishopsgate Street, London. oppofite [opposite] St Helens Place. An extensive variety of travelling Trunks of every description. Portable Leather Cases, Carriage Imperials, Carpet Bags, Holsters, Fire Buckets, Medicine Chests, Packing Cases for the East & West India and American Trade. Engraving Elegantly Executed.
