Tapestry fire screen design
Description
19th century watercolour design for floral tapestry fire screen and frame with manuscript ink note 'A. This drawing & B (below) represent a pair of finely worked tapestry fire screens. The work is under glass, & set in a rosewood frame. Each screen is attached by rings to an upright rod or (see back) pole, & can be fixed at any height by the means of a screw. The rod is supported on a stand with three feet; both rod & stand being constructed of the same wood as the frame. The tapestry is, I believe, the work of S.A.G., & the screens have done duty in the Queen Square, Holland Park, & Southwold houses. The figure on the left shows stand & back of screen, the latter being of green damask. The base of the pillar between D & E is hexagonal in shape. Dimensions are as follows:- AB = 5ft 3 3/8 inches AC = 1ft 11 7/8 inches AE = 3 3/4/ inches AF = 2 inches. ab = 1ft 7 inches cd = 1ft 3 inches. The frame enclosing the screen (in front) is about 1 1/8 inches in depth & is fitted thus & the dimensions of this frame are - ef eg = 1 foot 2 3/4 inches.'
